About Black Doctors
Black Doctors is a directory of Black physicians, therapists, dentists and other clinicians, and a members-only platform where those clinicians manage their own listing. Every clinician you find here either told us themselves that they are Black or listed themselves on a roster that says so. 1,158 are listed today, and 971 carry a license check we made.
Who runs it
Black Doctors is run by Mario Bailey and Will Moss, who also run blackhealth.org, a health information site and clinic directory for Black patients. Black Doctors is the clinician side of that work: a directory that shows its own evidence and, soon, a place for Black clinicians to find each other.
Why we built this
Race concordant care, meaning care from a clinician who shares a patient's racial background, is an active area of research on patient-clinician concordance and how it affects trust, communication and follow-up care. We built Black Doctors so that finding a Black clinician does not depend on a personal referral or a lucky search. Every listing here starts from a clinician's own statement of identity, and each profile says what else we checked and when; read how verification works for the specifics.
Three promises
- Self-identified only. We never guess who is Black from a name or a photo. Only a clinician's own statement, or a roster where they listed themselves, establishes identity on this site.
- License-checked, and dated. We match clinicians against the NPI registry and confirm an active state license, then check again every quarter. The profile shows the date of its last check, and 971 of the 1,158 listings carry one today.
- Free, forever. A listing never costs a clinician anything, now or later.
How we make money
Black Doctors earns money two ways: labeled partner links, where we earn a commission if a reader signs up, and paid features for clinicians, such as a Featured listing, which always carries the words "paid placement". We run no display advertising, and neither of those ever changes who is listed or how a listing looks. Read the full advertising and affiliate disclosure.
