Description

The Office of Research & Strategic Partnerships seeks a Project Director for a two-year, grant-funded research initiative supported by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA).

The Project Director will oversee all day-to-day operations of the project, serving as the primary point of contact alongside the Institute's authorized representative with NYSERDA. This role will ensure timely coordination among internal and external collaborators, including Pratt Institute's Legal and Risk Management units, and will be responsible for project execution, compliance, and reporting. Reports to the Director of Finance and Operations, Research and Strategic Partnerships.

About the Project: The project, "NY-NLT: an Energy Efficient NYS Mass Timber Structural Panel Product," aims to develop a carbon-negative nail-laminated timber (NLT) structural system sourced from New York State pine. The panels will be milled, fabricated, and tested for use in building decarbonization projects across the state.
The project demonstrates how prefabricated NY-NLT panels can advance affordable housing while reducing carbon emissions and supporting green jobs in both upstate (timber supply and fabrication) and downstate (fabrication and application) New York.

Examples of Duties


  • Provide oversight and strategic direction to project team as they refine project scope of work through planning, design, and construction of two small-scale demonstration projects;
  • Manage project team including senior personnel, other faculty, consultants, and sub-awardees;
  • Develop a project schedule, milestone, and track project progress, ensuring all project team members meet deadlines and deliverable requirements;
  • Coordinate consultant and subaward scheduled to meet project milestones;
  • Ensure reporting requirements are met, including preparing periodic and milestone reports to the funder;
  • Budget negotiations and tracking;
  • Contribute to contract negotiation discussions and reviewing contract and subcontracts with Legal and Risk Management units;
  • Coordinate regular meetings with project team, funder, the Office of Research & Strategic Partnerships, and other Pratt units as needed;
  • Supervise, coordinate, and serve as the primary point of contact in relationships with external partners.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate Degree in architecture, planning, or a related field;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder research and/or design & construction projects with multiple collaborators.

Experience:
  • Minimum five years' research administration, project management, or administrative management in industry, higher education, or non-profit environments required;
  • Familiarity with federal, state, or city funding agency guidelines, policies, and procedures;
  • Experience with grant or sponsored project administration, including budgeting and reporting;
  • Experience with NYSERDA a plus.

Skills:
  • Outstanding organizational skills;
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills;
  • Confident managing multiple project timelines simultaneously, enforcing deadlines, and making adjustments based on funder input and project development;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in a professional manner with all levels of faculty, staff, external partners, and leadership;
  • Ability to work independently and in close coordination with multiple internal and external stakeholders;
  • Background in architectural design & construction, resource management, supply chain analysis, and mass timber construction technologies a plus.
