ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s New York City office is seeking a Traction Power Intern to join the team for Summer of 2026. The intern will work on various transit and rail infrastructure traction power projects.
Responsibilities
- Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
- Engineering calculations
- Contract documents including specifications
- Assist in planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transit-focused system infrastructure projects
- Produce/draw railway signal and comms design drawings in CAD
- Survey of existing signal and comms equipment on MTA and MNR
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with clients
- Self-motivated with attention to detail
- Robust technical and critical thinking skills
- Exposure to CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Must have the ability to conduct tasks independently
- Strong interest in comms and signal engineering
Our best estimate of the hourly salary range for this position located in New York is $19/hr - $30/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
